These terms are no longer in force. They governed splitscreen until September 4, 2026 and are kept here so you can read the version a purchase or an account was made under. The current terms are at /terms. One sentence of the “Shared rooms” section below could not be recovered and is marked where it stood; every other word is the text as it was published. If you need that sentence, email contact@splitscreen.chat and we will give it to you.
These terms are written to be read. Using splitscreen means you agree to them.
splitscreen is a shared workspace where a group talks to Claude, GPT and Gemini in the same room. We provide the room, the caps, and the ledger.
There are two ways to pay for a reply. Bring your own key: you save your own provider API key, and Anthropic, OpenAI or Google bills your account directly for every token at their rates, with no markup from us. Credits: you buy prepaid credit from us, the reply runs on our provider accounts, and we charge your balance a per reply price that covers what the provider charges us plus our margin. Every room shows you which way it is paying before you send.
By saving an API key, you authorize splitscreen to make requests with it, only within rooms you are a member of, and never past the spending caps you set. We strongly recommend keys scoped to a provider workspace with its own spending limit; that limit is enforced by your provider independently of us, and it is your responsibility to set it. You can revoke a key at any time, which stops all future use immediately.
A credit is prepaid balance on your splitscreen account, held in US dollars. It buys AI replies from us. It buys nothing else.
Before a reply starts we reserve the most it could cost, and when it finishes we charge your balance what it actually cost and write the reply to your ledger. If your balance cannot cover the reservation, the reply does not start.
Per reply prices are set by us. They cover what the model provider charges us plus our margin, and they can change, including for models you already use, because provider prices change. Current prices are always shown in the app. We will give you at least 30 days notice in the app before a price goes up. A price change never reaches back to credit you already spent.
Credits are not money. They are not a deposit, they earn nothing, they have no cash value, and you cannot transfer, sell, gift or move them to another account or another person. They are redeemable only for AI replies on splitscreen.
Payments run through Stripe. Stripe collects and holds your card details. We never see or store your card number.
Prices are in US dollars and do not include tax. Where we are required to collect sales, use, lease or similar taxes, they are calculated at checkout and shown to you before you pay.
Refunds, plainly: ask within 14 days of a purchase and we refund the unused part of it to the card you paid with. Credit you have already spent on replies is not refundable, because we have already paid the model provider for those replies. Email contact@splitscreen.chat and we will process it within 10 business days.
If we close your account, or we stop selling credits, we refund your unused balance to the card you paid with. The one exception is credit bought with a payment that turns out to be fraudulent or stolen. Credit you have already spent is not refundable, because we have already paid the model provider for those replies.
Credit you buy does not expire. It sits on your account until you spend it or ask for it back.
Free credit does: signup credit lasts 30 days, and the Squad allowance expires shortly after your billing month ends. The app shows you the date. Expired free credit cannot be restored, and it was never refundable, because you did not pay for it.
Squad costs $12 per month. Stripe charges you on the day you subscribe and on the same day each month after that, until you cancel.
Squad and credits are separate. The subscription buys features. Credits buy replies. Neither converts into the other, and cancelling Squad does not touch your credit balance.
Cancel any time from Billing. Cancelling stops the next charge and you keep Squad until the end of the month you have already paid for. We do not prorate a partial month and we do not refund a month already under way, unless the law where you live says otherwise.
If the price changes, we will tell you at least 30 days before it applies to you, and you can cancel before it does.
Caps in splitscreen are enforced before every request, and every completed reply is recorded on a ledger you can inspect. On your own key, metering is based on your provider’s own usage figures. We work hard to make these numbers exact, but your provider’s bill is the authoritative record of what you owe them, not ours. On credits, the number on the receipt is the price we charged your balance, and our ledger is the authoritative record of that.
Messages you post in a room are visible to that room’s members and are included in what the AI model reads. Replies the room generates may be paid for by any member with available budget, under the sticky-payer rules explained on every project page (see “How the room pays”). [One sentence stood here, saying that a reply paid with credits is paid from the balance of the person who asked for it and never from anyone else’s. Its exact wording could not be recovered and has deliberately not been guessed.] Don’t put secrets in a room you wouldn’t share with its members.
Don’t use splitscreen with API keys you are not authorized to use. Don’t use it to violate your AI provider’s usage policies, to harass people, or to break the law. We may suspend accounts that do. The full list is on the Acceptable Use page, and it applies whether the reply runs on your key or on ours.
Credits buy replies for people in a room. They do not buy a pipeline. We rate limit messages, replies, tool runs and key checks, and we may change those limits to keep the service standing up.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or the Acceptable Use policy, abuses the code sandbox, resells or brokers access to splitscreen, pays with a card that is not theirs, or opens accounts to get around a limit, a cap or a suspension.
If you dispute a charge with your bank instead of asking us, we suspend the account while the dispute is open and hold your credit balance until it closes. Please email us first. We would rather refund you than argue with a bank.
You must be 18 or older to buy credits or a subscription, or older if that is the age of majority where you live. By buying, you tell us you are.
You must be at least 13 to use splitscreen at all. If you are under 18 you may only use it with a parent or guardian’s permission, and only on a key that someone else is responsible for. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13, and we will delete an account we learn belongs to one.
Replies come from Anthropic, OpenAI and Google. Using splitscreen means you also follow their rules: the Anthropic Usage Policy, the OpenAI Usage Policies, and Google’s Gemini API Additional Terms and generative AI prohibited use policy. That applies whether the reply runs on your key or on ours.
When you spend credits, the request goes out on our provider account, so what you send is our responsibility to them. We may refuse, stop or remove a request those policies prohibit, and a provider may refuse it on its own. A reply a provider refuses on policy grounds still uses tokens, so it still costs.
Models change. Providers rename them, deprecate them, reprice them and switch their tools off, usually on their own schedule. We do not promise that any particular model, tool or feature stays available. We may replace a model with a comparable one or drop it, with notice in the app where we are given enough warning to give you any.
If a model you relied on goes away, your credits are untouched: they still buy replies from whatever we do carry. If we stop selling credits entirely, we will either let you spend your balance or refund it.
splitscreen is provided as-is. To the maximum extent the law allows, we are not liable for AI-generated content, for what a model gets wrong, for spending on your own API keys (your caps and your provider’s workspace limits are the controls), or for indirect damages.
Our total liability for any claim is capped at what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim: your credits and subscription for that period. Where the law does not allow that cap, it does not apply.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising from them or from your use of splitscreen will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Illinois, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
We’ll post changes to these terms here with a new date. Questions: contact@splitscreen.chat.
