Compare
splitscreen and ChatGPT, for a group
ChatGPT is OpenAI’s own assistant app. splitscreen is a group chat with AI in it: a room of people who can each ask GPT, Claude or Gemini, with every answer in the room for everyone.
ChatGPT is built mainly around one person’s conversations with OpenAI’s models, and ChatGPT group chats stopped taking new groups on 9 July 2026 (the same fact /group-chat states).
splitscreen is a separate app, not made by OpenAI. It connects to OpenAI, Anthropic and Google through their APIs, so one room can use all three.

Which fits your group
splitscreen fits when
- A group (friends, a class, a game table, a team) wants to ask AI together and see the same answers.
- You want to use Claude and Gemini as well as GPT, without three subscriptions.
- One person wants to cover the AI for everyone, with a limit.
ChatGPT fits when
- You mostly use AI on your own.
- You want features that only exist in OpenAI’s own apps.
Questions
Is splitscreen made by OpenAI?
No. splitscreen is an independent app. It uses OpenAI’s, Anthropic’s and Google’s models through their APIs.
Can I move a ChatGPT conversation to splitscreen?
Yes. Import a conversation from ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini into a room, and everyone you invite sees it and can carry on.
Do my friends need a ChatGPT account?
No. They need a splitscreen account to join a room.
What does it cost?
It is free to start: every account gets 50 free AI replies a day on fast models (GPT-6 Luna and Gemini Flash-Lite) once you verify your email. For stronger models, buy credits from $5 a pack. Or one person gets Squad for $15 a month: the whole $15 comes back as credit (about 1,600 smart replies a month), and friends in your rooms get stronger models from your credit, with a daily limit each. You can also bring your own API key, with no markup.
